VintageBASH Transforms Audley Recreation Centre: A Night of Elegant Décor and Florals
When the Ajax Mayor’s Gala committee envisioned an elegant evening that felt both grounded in nature and elevated in style, they turned to VintageBASH to make it happen. With the Audley Recreation Centre as our canvas, our team was thrilled to take on the challenge of turning a modern, multipurpose venue into a serene woodland escape—one that transported guests into an evening of unforgettable charm and refined celebration.

A Vision Rooted in Nature
At the heart of our design concept was the idea of bringing the outdoors in. The client was drawn to the beauty of natural textures, moody lighting, and earthy elegance—and we couldn’t wait to deliver. We imagined a space that felt organic yet polished, intimate yet grand. To make this happen, we leaned into a woodland-inspired theme, using a palette rich in greens, browns, golds, and soft candlelit warmth.

The Dining Experience: Elevated, Organic, and Enchanting
The transformation began with long banquet-style wooden tables—a natural foundation for the layered details that followed. We styled each table with:
- Organic moss runners and greenery garlands, designed to mimic a forest floor
- Golden geometric terrariums, filled with natural elements like moss, branches, and pinecones
- Clear beaded charger plates and gold-rimmed glassware, adding just the right touch of sparkle and formality
- Rustic lanterns interspersed between centerpieces, casting a soft, flickering glow
Our floral arrangements were the soul of the setup—earth-toned and wild in shape, incorporating dried accents and textured greenery that felt effortless yet intentional. The floral design brought an ethereal layer to the tablescape while grounding the entire space in natural beauty.
Creating Immersive Vignettes Throughout the Venue
Great design is about more than just the main hall. At VintageBASH, we always aim to create full-sensory experiences that carry a theme throughout every touchpoint of an event.
For this gala, we thoughtfully decorated various corners of the venue—from entryways to washrooms—so guests would feel the magic wherever they wandered. Some highlights included:
- Log-style floral vases adorned with white blooms and moss in guest areas
- Gold branches, artfully shaped and placed to add dimension and visual interest
- Whimsical forest accents like pinecones and faux mushrooms, subtly nodding to the theme without ever feeling overdone
Every element was selected with intention, blending refinement with rustic charm to keep the ambiance cohesive and immersive.
Lighting & Atmosphere: The Final Layer
No woodland escape is complete without the right lighting, and for the gala, we paid careful attention to ambiance. Soft uplighting in warm tones and strategic spotlighting on key floral installations helped create mood and depth. As the evening unfolded, the soft illumination paired with the earthy textures created a dreamlike setting that felt timeless and cozy.
